Curtain Holdbacks: A Guide

At Made by the Forge, we have windows well looked after. From our handcrafted finials and poles, right down to the curtain rings, care, expertise and time is taken to get each product exactly right. But there is another element of the window frame that often gets overlooked. Curtain holdbacks are practical, decorative and can enhance a window in a very subtle way while doing its job of literally holding back the drawn curtain. We forge curtain holdbacks in various styles and sizes offering a wide range of options that both match and complement your taste and the style of your home’s decor.

Holdbacks also create the classic curtain shape starting wider at the pole and being brought in to the holdback and then settling down beneath it in symmetrical lines. Choosing how much the curtain should be drawn above the effect of the holdback allows you to control the light levels in the room. Made by the Forge specialises in three designs of curtain holdback; the curved iron holdback with matching finial at the outer end; the straight Contemporary Range with four modern finial ends; and lastly the holdback hook which works in conjunction with an attractive braided rope.

Another thing to consider when choosing a holdback is the fabric and weight of the curtain you are holding back. Clearly the weightier curved iron piece could do its job best on fuller, heavier curtains while the straight pieces in the Contemporary Range are designed to hold back a much smaller, lighter curtain. Selecting the holdback hook united with a braid of your own choosing, you’ll have the measure of any curtain size or weight. If you’re after a holdback, then don’t hold back. Made by the Forge has you covered.
