Ever felt like your household is buzzing with activity? Children playing, people moving about, doors constantly opening and closing: it’s the soundtrack of a busy household. Although this can be a positive sign of a lively home, all these noises can soon become overwhelming, making it hard to unwind or focus, especially for those who work from home.
However, we offer a simple solution to this problem with our door curtain poles. Adding high-quality, thick curtains across doors means that sounds can be significantly dampened, adding a bit of peace to your home without compromising your lifestyle.
Why Noise Reduction Matters
Noise can have a considerable impact on your everyday well-being. Stress, sleep quality and distraction from work are all linked to how noisy your environment is. Particularly for those who work from home, minimising noise is key to keeping your focus and sounding professional when taking work calls. Those with young children or working unsocial hours would also benefit from a bit more peace in those early mornings, late nights and school holidays.
How Door Curtain Poles Work To Reduce Noise
Adding curtains over doors helps to reduce noise by blocking and absorbing sound waves. Thick, lined curtains on sturdy poles like ours can create sound barriers throughout your home, creating a more calm environment. Window curtains can have a similar effect when paired with thick curtains, reducing the noise pollution from outside your home. While blocking noise entering the room is one benefit, another is reducing echoes and feedback when taking calls.
Extra Benefits
Who doesn’t like some additional benefits at no extra cost? Not only do door curtains dampen the sounds of your home, but they also greatly help with insulation and energy efficiency. This is especially true in older houses where windy days can bring unwelcome draughts.
By excluding draughts from around your doors and keeping the warm air in when doors are opened, these curtains can also reduce your energy bill.
Another benefit is the stylish touch it can bring to any room. Our handcrafted iron curtain poles with our range of finials bring character to any room and enhance the personality of your home.
Choosing The Right Door Curtain Pole
A forged iron curtain pole is the best choice for getting all the benefits of door curtains. Our iron poles are extremely durable and can withstand the weight of heavier curtains, which maximise noise reduction and heat-saving effects.
We offer a few distinct styles of door curtain poles that seamlessly blend into the room.
- Swinging Portière Rods have 180 degrees of movement so you can neatly swing them to the side when not in use and then swing back to cover the door.
- Our grand, Curved Door Curtain Poles are best used for front or back doors. The semi-circle is slightly bigger than the arc of the door, so you can come and go as you please.
- L-Shaped Poles allow you to draw the curtain next to the wall when not in use, without a Portière style swinging arm. This style works well in narrow hallways where space is limited.
- Straight or recessed curtain poles are best for French doors and patio doors, where additional brackets might be needed to support the weight of the curtain due to the width of these style doors.
Choosing the right length of pole will also ensure that the door is fully covered which stops any noise leaking around the edges. Our made-to-measure poles ensure you’ll always have the perfect fit. Handmade, decorative curtain pole finials, such as our Ram’s Horn and Ball and Twisted Cage, add charm as well as functionality to any home.
Installation Tips
Having a correctly fitted door curtain pole will ensure you reap the most benefits; with a curtain mounted for maximum coverage, there are fewer gaps that may allow noise to pass.
For all of our door poles, you will need to measure the width of the door frame. For our Portière Rods, we recommend checking there is enough room for the pole to swing out of the way without any obstructions.
For our straight poles, we recommend adding an additional 20% of this frame measurement to account for the two drawbacks on either side. Depending on your choice of decorative finials, the lengths of these will be added to determine the overall length of your desired curtain pole.
There may need to be adjustments for different types of doors but each of our poles has a handy measuring guide for you to follow and we’re always on hand to help if you’re unsure!
