How to Put Up a Recess Curtain Pole with Brackets

Hello, I'm Richard from Made By The Forge, and in this video, I'm going to show you how to put up a curtain pole that needs to fit inside a recess. Now a recess is where you haven't got any room outside of the window opening, so no room for finials.

You are going to need some special recess brackets like this, and I'm going to show you how to put the pole up. You'll need a few tools. So what we've got here are the two brackets I just showed you and the pole. You might need some of these fixings (wall plugs), depending on what you're drilling into (porous materials like plaster, brick, or concrete) and the screws.

You'll need a pencil, to mark where the holes are going, and you'll need to measure with a tape measure. And then you'll need the screwdriver. A good idea is to have a spirit level on hand, and then you'll need the drill to drill the holes. So I'll talk you through it. It's all quite simple.

So we're going to start with putting one bracket up on the first side. So let's mark and measure where we want our first hole to be. So that's about where I can get it to in the frame. So I just mark the top hole. And we can then drill that and put that in. That's the first screw. And then I'll check to make sure it’s level. And then I can mark the second hole.

For the second bracket, we take the height measurement from the first bracket, I just need to make sure that it's the right distance off the wall. So I'm going to measure and copy what it was on the other side. So I can now drill that hole, and that's the bottom hole. Once, the hole has been drilled, I fit the wall plug and do the same with the top hole.

So both your brackets are on the wall. It's time to lift your pole with the rings into place. There we go. All done. Well, I hope this has been helpful. Thanks for watching.

Our stunning recess curtain poles are handmade in our very own forge and have been designed to fit discreetly into a window recess, by utilising our specially designed recess brackets. As our poles are bespoke and made to measure, we will be able to fit any size of recess.

As fitting recess curtain poles might not be as straightforward as wall surface mounted curtain poles, we have produced a video to guide you through the process

In this video, Richard from Made by the Forge will show you how to install one of our wrought iron recess curtain poles into a recessed window. This quick and easy to follow demonstration will show you how to fit it with just one person.

Before you start to fit your curtain pole, you would make sure that you have the following items:

  • Recess brackets
  • Curtain pole
  • Screws
  • Wall plugs (depending on what you’re fixing to)
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Spirit level
  • Pencil
