Cannonball Finials curtain pole - Matt Black

The Cannonball Finial, 20mm iron curtain pole

Our superb 20mm curtain poles and finials are handcrafted by expert blacksmiths. Take a closer look at the finial and you will see the hammer marks still visible from the forging process.

Our best-selling, classic Cannonball Finial is as popular now as it has ever been. The cannonball design is comfortably installed in the most modest of homes or the grandest of castles. Originally designed to be a literal full stop at the end of the curtain pole to prevent the curtain from slipping off the end, the finial has now become a beloved decorative feature all by itself. Measuring up

Measuring for a straight window pole requires just three quick and simple steps:

  1. Firstly, where is the pole going to go? Stand back, look at the window, and check that there are no beams, light switches, or fittings in the way of a straight mount above the window. One option if there are obstructions is a Recess Curtain Pole and Brackets. As our curtain poles are all handmade to order, we can also create a bespoke solution just for you.

Ideally, the pole should be mounted 15cm above the top of the window. If you have a low ceiling, it should be mounted halfway between the ceiling and the top of the window.
  2. Measure the width of your window. Remember to measure in centimetres.
  3. For the drawbacks (the area where the curtain hangs when drawn back), we recommend 10% of the width of the window. Just divide the window width by 10. This is added to the overall length of the pole. If you have thicker/heavier curtains, add one or two centimetres to allow for the additional thickness.

Also, in the video below, Richard explains how to take measurements before ordering.

"Just wanted to say a huge thank you for making such a beautiful job of the pole on extended brackets, it was a very awkward space to work with. Please see photos above. Both us and our clients are over the moon! Huge thanks"
